I’ve bought more Mobile Phone related domains

I had promised myself that I would find the time to start work on my Mobile Phone Comparison website (which I have to my credit, just a shame it’s been one of those, stop, start, stop, start again situations). I erm, keep playing around with my website and then just as I think I’m getting somewhere with it I decide it isn’t quite what I had in mind and start over again. I really do need to get it finished though as I was browsing through one of the forums I frequent on Affiliate Marketing and I was reading through their Domains for Sale section and I came across a list of Mobile Phone related domains that I liked the look of. So I loaded up Google and had a quick flick through the domain names to see what came up in search and then I decided I wouldn’t do it to myself, I wouldn’t buy any and I would stick with what I have. Well that worked for all of a couple of hours until I found myself messaging the OP about the domains with an offer and the following day, I had them transferred over. That was going to be it as far as I was concerned. I had just bought three domains from him and that was my lot. The problem was, I then saw he’d listed some more domains relating to Mobile Phone Recycling and that had my mind buzzing away again. So off I went again and did a bit of research, checked the Affiliate Networks I’m registered on to see what was available and well, that was that. I sent off yet another offer and he agreed to sell them to me.

I now have 5 new domains in my possession and 6 Mobile Phone websites in total that all require my attention *gulps*

I really do need to start thinking of them more as a customers websites than my own because it would be easier if somebody could say to me, I want A, B and C doing, how long will it take you? And then I could just get on with it. Because I have nobody on my back and too many ideas flooding my poor brain, I am so hard to please (family and friends will no doubt agree with that) and I find myself changing my mind constantly and changing this and that before I’m anywhere near happy with the outcome.

AllMobileDeals.co.uk Facelift

My Mobile Phone website is getting my attention next now I have made a start on this website. It’s been a long time coming and I still can’t believe that I’ve had it almost a year now, how time flies. It was my first (and only) real attempt at getting into and understanding Affiliate Marketing. I have learned a lot in the past 12 months and I have to admit that since I started to use Google Analytics more as well as their Keyword Tool.

I have begun to realise just how important a great Keyword Rich, Domain name is. So much so, that if I have pretty much began to reassess my other domains and the effort I’d have to put in to get anywhere with them. I now realise that trying to compete on such a large scale for Affiliate Products such as Perfumes is so much effort and hard work to maintain, let alone actually keep updated. That I have decided to think smaller and concentrate on more localised items such as brands and individual products for which there are fewer Merchants to keep updated with and of course, fewer Products to try and keep prices updated with.

Anyway, back to AllMobileDeals.co.uk – I do tend to get side tracked easily…

I have plans for this website including a complete facelift of the structure and navigation of the website and also, I intend to start adding more news and content to the blog backend which I never really saw time to do before. Now I realise it’s probably too much to expect that my news updates about Mobile Phones is going to compete with the Big News Agencies and Technology websites, but as I have said before, Content is King and the more you have, the more time the Search Engines (and hopefully visitors) will spend looking around my website and in turn, hopefully I’ll gain better rankings and get Bookmarked too so I get a few return visitors.

According to Google Analytics, when I first started off with my website, I was getting upwards of 150-200+ visitors a month which is quite pitiful really when you realise just how many people are searching for Keywords such as “Mobile Phones”. It’s now down gone down to around 60-80+ Visitors a Month in the past few Months which kinda kicked me up the backside a bit during Christmas when I was looking at it and thinking to myself, I really do need to stop spending so much time watching TV and actually get to doing something more useful with my websites. It was also helped by the fact that I was asked by E4 First Aid Supplies to have a look at their website and do something with it as a favour, so I’ve been playing around with Joomla for their website which I have attempted to use numerous times before but always found myself hitting my head against the wall and giving up on. But alas, I decided that they needed less of a Blog format such as WordPress and more of an online Catalogue to showcase who they are and what they do. It also, of course, gave me the motivation to do something with my websites which includ this Website, AllMobileDeals.co.uk and FriedGreenKidneyBean.com…

My First Post

Well not technically my first post but I have started and stopped this blog so many times and changed directions with it, it’s probably my 1000th post or some obscure number. But either way, I have started to see the merits in actually writing a blog and actually “backing up” said blog. I have a habit of deciding to try out new things and then figure I can not be bothered actually re-installing the backups I’ve made so my blog always ends up bare for weeks/months before I can motivate myself to start writing about something. Like all good things, getting started is the hardest part of anything but once you get going, it of course becomes much easier since you’ve already got yourself into some sort of rhythm…

Am I making sense here? Possibly not lol

So lets start with the whole SEO thing which is probably just as much a Black Art as it is the Voodoo Doll of Geeks. I presume it’s a lot like plumbers (or any other tradesmen for that matter – sorry if you are a plumber btw). They turn up at your house, charge a small fortune, tap a few pipes and then tell you it’ll cost a few hundred pounds to replace a 20 pence washer.

I really do feel that it’s a lot like this with Search Engine Optimisation since people who are unaware what it’s all about get duped into the whole hysteria of things and try and not look confused when they get told about “Keywords”, “SERPs” and “Page Rank”. The truth of the matter is, everyone is chasing Page Rank on their websites, companies are being told that Page Rank = Visitors and of course Visitors = “Conversions” . So they’re all eager little bunnies to try and get their website to display a big long green bar (that’s the mystical Page Rank display).

I have to admit, I was also caught up in trying to figure out how the hell I could *coughs* trick Google et al into thinking my website and of course the Content (you know, Content is King as they say) was the greatest it had ever come across and should warrant being in the number 1 spot for well, everything I wrote about really. The problem is, it’s not going to happen over night for anyone and for those that do manage to get their for Keywords which aren’t so obscure, they could almost be a Google Whack (remember those?). For every popular search query, there will no doubt be hundreds if not thousands of website owners and companies chasing the glories and riches of being on page one in first place. I myself am fighting an uphill battle with my Mobile Phone Price Comparison website since there are so many websites big and small all competing for the numerous keywords and search queries. I know I’ll never get to number one for “Mobile Phones”, but it of course could be possible I could make it close to the top spot, or at least page one for longer Keywords, often termed, “Long Tail Keywords”. Essentially, using my Phone website as an example, I could possible target a search query such as the “Best Mobile Phones Deals” or “Cheap Mobile Phone Deals”.

There is lots of things that can be done, so much in fact that there are Books, Websites and Blogs devoted to the whole subject. I’ll let you into a little secret though, all SEO is, is basically – “Good Quality Content”, that is to say, it needs to be well written, contain a lot of Keywords which are focused on what your Website or Blog, your Business or whatever it is you have online is about. Now there would be little point in having a Website for, for example, Mobile Phones (such as my website) and me writing content on that Domain Name about anything that was not relevant to Mobile Phones, Mobile Networks or Mobile Phone Deals.
