Links are the fundamental part of the Internet, connecting every source of information with every other source online. Originally, the idea was that linking to other websites and other information was seen as a mark of approval from one website owner to another. The more links that a website had, the more likely it was to be a good source of information.
However, as time went on this system began to get abused and as such, it is now a much tougher proposition finding good quality websites to get links from. Not only that, but acquiring good quality links is possibly even more important than simply acquiring a huge quantity of links.
